Aviata at Colonial Lakes ties as Orange County’s No. 3 nursing home by size in Q1

During the opening quarter of 2026, Aviata at Colonial Lakes was tied for the third largest nursing home in Orange County with three other facilities, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported. It shared this position with Apopka Health and Rehabilitation Center, Rehabilitation Center of Winter Park, and Lotus Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

The center operated with 180 beds during the period, which is 53 more than Orange County’s average as of the first quarter of 2026. It aided an average of 160.7 residents at that time.

The CMS gave Aviata at Colonial Lakes an overall rating of 1 out of 5, below the state average of 3.3 for Florida nursing facilities.

Orlando Health and Rehabilitation Center led the county’s nursing homes in size that quarter, with 391 beds, followed by Health Central Park in second place at 218 beds available.

As of the first quarter of 2026, Aviata at Colonial Lakes incurred three fines totaling $23,136 and was issued three penalties.

There were 24 for-profit nursing homes operating in Orange County, Florida, at that time.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates show that the older adult population in the United States continues to rise, while numbers for younger groups are dropping. Between 2020 and 2024, those age 65 and over grew by 13%, in contrast to a 1.7% decline among people under 18. Over the past century, the country’s older adult population surged dramatically, from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.

A 2021 study indicates nearly half of these older Americans—close to 28 million people—might require long-term services and support. The same research projects that more than one-third may ultimately need nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
