FOIA Request to University of Central Florida Regarding Chinese National Students on June 4, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in governmental affairs, North Orlando News has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the University of Central Florida. This request seeks detailed information concerning Chinese National students currently enrolled at the university.
The specific requests include:
1. Documents or lists identifying all current students who are Chinese Nationals and their respective departments. If individual names are protected, we have requested the total number of such students broken down by department.
2. Details regarding scholarships awarded to these students, including the amount each student receives and the source of each scholarship.
3. A list of recipients of any scholarships granted by organizations affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council, unless this information is already covered in the previous request.
4. Policies or procedures that outline how the university monitors students, including Chinese Nationals, to safeguard its Intellectual Property and other confidential information.
This request is made on behalf of North Orlando News and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting transparency within governmental institutions. We believe that access to these records is crucial for holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public.
As media professionals engaged in gathering and reporting news, we have requested a fee waiver for this FOIA submission. Our role involves disseminating vital information to the public, and access to these records will aid us in fulfilling our professional responsibilities.
