Leah Harmon, a sophomore on the UCF Knights Women’s Basketball team, has been recognized as one of the Big 12 Starting Five following an impressive week in which she scored 78 points over four games. This honor makes her the third UCF player to receive a weekly award since the university joined the Big 12 Conference.
During last week’s games, Harmon averaged 19.5 points per game and set a career-high with 27 points in a narrow victory against Rice. “First one of the season for the Knights @qharmon1 last week: Avg’d 19.5 pts across four games Set a career-high with 27 pts vs. Rice Now #7 in the @Big12Conference with 17.4 ppg,” stated UCF Women’s Hoops on social media.
The Knights finished their recent stretch with a 3-1 record, including two wins at the Discover Puerto Rico Shootout in San Juan. Harmon consistently scored at least 17 points in each game and became only the 16th Knight since 1999 to make double-digit free throws in a single contest.
Harmon is also noted for her scoring versatility, having made multiple three-pointers in every game last week and recording five or more field goals in each of her first eight appearances for UCF—a first for any player starting their Black and Gold career. In addition, she achieved a personal best by distributing six assists during the opener in San Juan.
Among all players in the Big 12 Conference, Harmon currently ranks seventh in points per game (17.4) and fourth in three-point shooting percentage (44.4%), placing her among the top shooters nationally.
The Knights will continue their season with a home game against Stetson on Wednesday at Addition Financial Arena.
