In the first quarter of 2026, Forrest Preston remained the owner of Life Care Center of Orlando, based on information from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The Orange County facility has been under Preston’s ownership since Jan. 6, 1976.

Life Care Center of Orlando operates as a for-profit nursing home.

During the same timeframe, the facility received an overall CMS rating of 4, exceeding Florida’s statewide nursing home average of 3.3. The CMS rating system assesses facilities on major factors including health inspection results, staff ratios, and overall care quality for residents.

CMS data shows Life Care Center of Orlando served an average of 37.7 residents per day in the first quarter of 2026, with a total licensed capacity of 132 beds. The facility is currently not affiliated with a hospital.

Life Care Center of Orlando reported no fines or penalties in the first quarter of 2026.

Across Orange County, there were 24 nursing homes registered as for-profit entities.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates show a continuing rise in the older adult population while younger populations decrease. From 2020 to 2024, Americans age 65 and above grew by 13%, whereas those under age 18 declined by 1.7%. Over the past 100 years, the older adult demographic in the U.S. expanded from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million in 2024.

A study released in 2021 found that about half of people in this age group—nearly 28 million—are expected to need some form of long-term care services and support, with projections indicating that more than one-third could ultimately require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, which focuses on insurance education. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
