Nicolas Oliveira, a sophomore, has achieved his first ITF Professional Tournament victory by winning the M15 Ribeirao Preto event over the weekend in Orlando. He is now one of two athletes on the current UCF Knights Men’s Tennis roster to have won an ITF pro-tournament, joining team captain Yassine Dlimi, who previously won the M15 Casablanca title in 2023.
Oliveira faced top-seeded players throughout the tournament. In the opening round, he defeated Morocco’s Reda Bennani, ranked No. 659 in ATP singles, with a score of 6-2, 7-6. The second round saw him secure another straight-set win against Brazilian Tomas Dummer Macedo, finishing 6-4, 6-3.
In the quarterfinals, Oliveira advanced after a tiebreak victory over Ryan Augusto dos Santos with scores of 6-3, 7-6. Reflecting on his performance during the tournament, Oliveira said: “I knew it would be a great challenge, and I was focused on doing everything I had under my control, and I trusted that the results would come consequently. I faced adversity and tough moments in every round. It was mentally and physically challenging, but I kept the right mindset and stayed resilient through all of it. I’m sure that was the key to getting through every hard situation I faced.”
During the semifinals against Joao Victor Couto Loureiro—ranked No. 905 in ATP singles—Oliveira came from behind after losing the first set to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 and advance to his first professional final.
In the championship match against No. 2 seed Jose Pereira, Oliveira prevailed in three sets (6-4, 4-6, 6-3), earning his inaugural professional title.
