The No. 10 University of Central Florida men’s tennis team completed its non-conference schedule with a 7-0 victory over South Alabama on March 10 at the USTA National Campus.
The win keeps the Knights undefeated at home this season, now holding a 10-0 record in Orlando and improving their overall mark to 14-2. The only two losses for UCF during non-conference play came during ITA Indoor competition in Waco last month.
UCF started the afternoon by securing the doubles point. Luca Hotze and Nicolas Oliveira won their match on court three with a score of 6-3. On court two, Wissam Abderrahman and Mehdi Benchakroun clinched their match 6-4, while the duo of Yassine Dlimi and Paul Colin were close to finishing on court one before play moved to singles.
In singles action, Oliveira quickly defeated his opponent on court five, followed by Clement Lemire’s win on court six. Colin added another point for UCF with a straight-set victory on court four. Abderrahman, ranked No. 74 nationally, secured his match on court two, while Benchakroun achieved his milestone 100th collegiate win across singles and doubles matches over four years with the Knights after winning on court three. Dlimi finished off the sweep with a three-set win on court one.
With non-conference play concluded, UCF will next face Texas Tech in its first regular season Big 12 matchup at home at the USTA National Campus at 6 p.m. Friday, March 13.
The team’s strong performance throughout non-conference play sets up an important stretch as they enter conference competition.
