Rep. Cory Mills, who represents Florida’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress, used his social media platform on October 6, 2025, to address concerns about the ongoing government shutdown and its impact on federal workers and contractors.
In a post published at 17:33 UTC, Mills highlighted the consequences for essential federal personnel during the shutdown: “Workers Without Pay: From air traffic controllers and Border Patrol to Coast Guard crews, federal firefighters, and FBI agents, millions of Americans who protect our nation are being forced to work without pay. Unlike federal employees, contractors will never see backpay”.
Later that day at 18:46 UTC, Mills criticized congressional Democrats for their handling of temporary funding measures known as continuing resolutions (CRs): “Under President Biden, Democrats voted 13 times to pass short-term continuing resolutions (CRs) to keep the government open. Now, they’re playing politics with the livelihoods of hardworking Americans.”
At 21:56 UTC on the same day, Mills questioned Democratic priorities during negotiations over reopening the government: “Why do Democrats want to keep the government shutdown? To fund healthcare for illegal immigrants with YOUR money, prop up leftist media outlets with YOUR money, and back climate schemes in foreign countries with YOUR money – all while spending an extra $1.5 trillion and gutting https://t.co/fBd8goYceJ”.
Cory Mills has served as a member of Congress since 2023 after replacing Stephanie Murphy. He was born in Winter Haven, Florida in 1980 and currently resides in New Smyrna Beach.
