Rep. Cory Mills, a U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 7th district since 2023, has recently voiced criticism on social media regarding the government shutdown and its impact on military personnel and federal workers.
On October 2, 2025, Mills posted, “If our troops don’t get paid, neither should Congress. While Democrats refuse to act in Washington, I’m focused on solutions. This week, I signed the Pay Our Troops Act to ensure our military continues receiving pay during the government shutdown. I also met with veterans,” highlighting his support for legislation aimed at maintaining pay for service members during the ongoing shutdown.
Later that day, Mills further criticized Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Democratic lawmakers by stating, “Schumer shut down the government and he doesn’t care. He and every Democrat who blocked a clean CR STILL GET PAID! But here’s who doesn’t: 1.3M active-duty troops & 50,000 Coast Guard 150,000+ law enforcement & Border Patrol agents Firefighters on wildland duty Air”.
On October 3, Mills continued addressing the effects of the shutdown on military families: “Military families lined up at food pantries before sunrise — not because of war, but because of a Democrat-caused shutdown. While Schumer and Jeffries play politics, our troops face anxiety about missed paychecks and feeding their kids. This is disgraceful.”
Cory Mills was born in Winter Haven, Florida in 1980 and currently resides in New Smyrna Beach. He succeeded Stephanie Murphy as representative for Florida’s 7th district in 2023.
