University of Central Florida Athletics recently issued the following announcement.
Sometimes for the biggest games, it's best to go with a classic look. And that's exactly what UCF will be doing on Thursday. The Knights will be donning white helmets, black jerseys and white pants as they take on the Boise State Broncos in one of the most anticipated home openers in over a decade.
UCF last wore White/Black/White all the way back in 2016 against Tulsa. The look fans will see on Thursday is worthy of the game's primetime ESPN slot: simple, clean and classic. The Knights mean business and this uniform reflects that.
UCF's jumbo-sized white numbers play a big role in making this combo so effective, allowing white to almost feel like the primary color of the uniform but still leaving plenty of room for the black jerseys to contrast with the rest of the look. The small touches we've grown so used to over the last few years – the subtle Pegasus on the sleeves, the UCF logo on the collar – help to make this a top tier on-brand look.
It's another example of how versatile the Knights' uniform set is. When the team wants to show off, they can get truly out there and throw more creativity on the field than any other team in the nation. We're talking moon helmets, player photos in decals, etc. But when it's time to be all-business, the same uniform set can create a combo like this: streamlined, straightforward and still better than almost any other classic look out there.
It has been 52 games since UCF last wore this combo. In that span, the Knights have gone from a team working to rebound from a winless year to one of the premier brands and most successful programs in all of the sport. And now this look has the chance to be remembered as what UCF wore when it claimed one of its biggest home-opening wins ever.
