Women's Golf Heads to Jacksonville

5

Seminole State College issued the following announcement on Sept. 23.

The Seminole State Women's Golf team loves the Marsh Landing Country Club golf course (pictured above). Two years ago, SSC finished second in the Jacksonville University event at Marsh Landing, with two out of the three rounds scoring below 300. Three years ago, the Raiders finished fourth out of 15 teams on the same course. Last year, Seminole won the Jacksonville event.  While not at Marsh Landing (Amelia National Golf and Country Club), the blue and gold have had a way of taking care of business in Jacksonville.

The 2021 Sea Best Jacksonville Classic will begin on Monday with 36 holes and 18 holes on Tuesday. The teams will play a practice round on Sunday. Seminole State will be joined at the event by Bethune-Cookman, Embry-Riddle, Flagler College, JU, Lipscomb, Troy, Tulane and USC Upstate.

Coach Christa Teno noted, "Honestly, no one has showed any real consistency yet, we are in learning and fix mode. I have several explosive players that can take it low, but we are still making too many mistakes. I believe our scores will be lower just because Marsh Landing is such a beautiful golf course. Attitudes are great, team effort is fantastic and everyone is super positive and coachable.

The Raider starting five is:

Ayami Takahashi (Fr.) - looking to win her second straight tournament to start her collegiate career

Grace Aromando (So.) - finished T2 (with Kudo) in SSC's Warm-up presented by Orlando Health (+7)

Minami Kudo (So.) - NJCAA All-American in 2021, finished T2 in opener (+7)

Grace Connelly (So.) (right) - tied for fourth in opener (+9)

Banthita Phoncharatkun (aka "Pearl") (Fr.) - finished sixth in first collegiate tournament (+13)
