The City of Maitland will have a municipal election on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the following locations: Maitland City Hall - Council Chambers, 1776 Independence Lane Maitland, FL. 32751 and Anchor Church, 1950 Mohican Trail Maitland, FL. 32751.

Early Voting will be held March 6 to 10, 2023, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily at the Orange County Supervisor of Elections, 119 W. Kaley Street Orlando, FL. 32806.

Vote-By-Mail ballot requests expire after each federal general election cycle. Therefore, all vote-by-mail requests expired on December 31, 2022. To begin or continue to vote-by-mail, call Orange County Supervisor of Elections at 407-836-8683 or online at www.ocfelections.gov .

City Charter Amendments

Question 1 – Mayoral Succession

PROVIDING FOR VICE MAYOR TO COMPLETE UNEXPIRED TERM OF MAYOR IN EVENT OF VACANCY

Shall the City of Maitland’s Charter be amended to provide that in the event of a vacancy in the office of the mayor, the vice mayor shall become mayor for the remainder of the unexpired term?

Question 2 – Availability of Printed Copy

REQUIRING PRINTED CODE COPY IN CLERK’S OFFICE, ELIMINATING REQUIREMENT FOR OTHER PUBLIC AND OFFICER COPIES

Shall the City of Maitland’s Charter be amended to require that a printed copy of the Maitland City Code be available for public inspection at the office of the City Clerk, and to eliminate the requirement of a printed copy of the Maitland City Code be provided to city officers, be placed in various public places, and otherwise be made available for purchase?

Question 3 – Providing for Runoffs, Timing thereof and Tie-Breaking

ESTABLISHING ELECTION BY RECEIPT OF MOST VOTES CAST, AND TIE-BREAKING PROCEDURE FOR ELECTIONS, ELIMINATING RUNOFFS

Shall Section 8.03 of the City Charter be amended to establish that the candidate receiving the highest number of votes for an office is elected, and establishing that when two or more candidates receive an equal number of votes the candidates shall draw lots to determine the winner, while eliminating run-offs in city elections where no candidate receives a majority of the total votes cast?

Question 4 – Petitions, Oath, Qualifying

ADOPTING STATUTORY CANDIDATE OATH FORM, AMENDING TIME FOR SUBMISSION TO CLERK AND CLARIFIYING QUALIFYING PROCEDURES

Shall Section 8.04 of the City Charter be amended to adopt the statutory candidate oath office form, Sec. 99.021, F.S., amend when that form and petitions must be submitted to the City Clerk, and clarify petition certifying process by the Orange County Supervisor of Elections of petition signatures, elector status, and residency?

AMENDING THE CITY CHARTER BY REMOVING OR MAKING NEUTRAL ALL GENDER SPECIFIC REFERENCES
