On Monday evening, Congressman Cory Mills announced his decision to vote "No" on the Continuing Resolution (CR) should it be brought to the House Floor. He issued the following statement:

“I will be voting NO on the CR even if it includes the SAVE Act. The fact is that the total gross national debt has surged by $2.45 trillion in just the past year; that’s $6.71 billion per day, $4.66 million per minute, and $77,631 per second. Interest on the national debt alone now exceeds $3 billion per day. This level of reckless spending is absolutely unsustainable for our nation. We cannot continue printing money that fuels inflation and destroys the middle class. This is fiscal irresponsibility at its worst.

The bottom line is that I am a co-sponsor and voted in favor of the SAVE Act, which passed in the House. However, even if the Senate doesn’t strip it from this spending bill, there are no actionable elements in the SAVE Act that can be implemented in the next 50 days to improve election integrity in this upcoming election. This should have been done a year ago as argued. It should be transmitted to the Senate for a vote, just like H.R.2 Secure The Border Act.

Furthermore, this CR would weaken our defense capabilities and the readiness of our military, just as global threats are rapidly evolving. It would prevent us from responding effectively to adversarial nations like China, hinder innovation, and delay modernization. Six months is a long time in politics, but it's an eternity in geopolitics, where quick responses are critical to countering foreign adversaries threatening to harm U.S. interests.

In January 2023, we promised 12 appropriation bills to make necessary cuts. Instead, we’re dealing with Pelosi-level COVID emergency spending and the only guaranteed outcome of this CR is further debt, economic collapse, and the destruction of the middle class.

I’m a firm NO on bankrupting the nation and a YES on election integrity.”
