The University of Central Florida softball team announced on March 31 that it will host its fourth annual Autism Awareness and Acceptance Game during its home series opener against Utah on Thursday, April 2.
The event aims to raise awareness and promote understanding of autism among fans attending the game. The program has included similar elements in previous years, such as giveaways, a kids club table, Knightro’s Kid Zone, and in-game activities designed for families and children.
Fans entering the stadium will have access to puzzle piece ribbons while supplies last. Kulture City sensory bags will also be available at the marketing table for those with sensory needs. The Kids Club table will offer coloring activities and opportunities for young fans to create their own hair bows and posters.
Knightro’s Kid Zone is set to feature inflatables and outdoor yard games. In an effort to accommodate attendees with sensory sensitivities, the first inning of the game will be played in complete silence before gradually increasing noise levels as play continues. Throughout the evening, facts about autism will be shared by the stadium announcer.
At the end of the third inning, staff members plan to distribute puzzle piece coloring pages for fans to hold up during a ‘Puzzle Piece Moment of Awareness.’
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m., with live streaming available on ESPN+. UCF Athletics describes itself as a proud member of the Big 12 Conference with a mission “to positively transform the lives of our students academically, athletically, and personally through a nationally competitive intercollegiate athletics program that enhances the reputation and visibility of the University.” Additional information can be found at www.ucf.edu or www.ucfknights.com.
