The UCF women’s basketball team was defeated by Wake Forest, 65-60, in an overtime game during the Discover Puerto Rico Shootout on Thursday at the Coliseo Guillermo Angulo in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The contest featured 22 lead changes before Wake Forest secured the win by making their final four field goals in overtime.
Khyala Ngodu led UCF with a season-high 21 points and collected her first double-double of the season, grabbing 13 rebounds. Leah Harmon contributed 17 points, matching her career high and setting a new personal best with six made field goals.
“Ngodu secured back-to-back 20-point performances for the first time in her career, as her 21 points this afternoon marked a season-high, along with her 13 boards. The double-double is the junior’s first of the season and sixth in her career.”
“After posting six straight games with five field goals to open her UCF account, Harmon tallied six against Wake Forest, while her 17 points matched a career high.”
“The Knights set a season-high with 20 offensive boards and 17 second-chance points.”
The game remained close throughout regulation. UCF took a five-point lead early in the fourth quarter but went through a scoring drought that allowed Wake Forest to regain momentum. The teams were tied at the end of regulation after Leah Harmon hit a jumper to force overtime. In extra time, UCF managed only two field goals—both by Ngodu—while Wake Forest converted their last four shots to secure victory.
UCF’s record now stands at 5-2 following their first loss of the tournament. They will play Rice tomorrow afternoon as they look to return to winning form.
