The UCF women’s basketball team is set to participate in the Discover Puerto Rico Shootout in San Juan for the third time in its history and the first since 2023. The Knights will play three games from Wednesday to Friday at Coliseo Guillermo Angulo, facing East Carolina, Wake Forest, and Rice.

UCF previously won the tournament two years ago with a 3-0 record. The team aims to repeat that success following three consecutive wins leading up to this event.

Reflecting on past performances, UCF dominated the field during their last appearance in San Juan by defeating Jackson State, St. John’s, and Sacred Heart by a combined margin of 33 points. Under head coach Sytia Messer, the Knights have a strong record in mid-season tournaments and invitationals, going 7-2 overall and remaining undefeated in both the 2022 UCF Thanksgiving Classic and Christmas Classic.

Recent results show UCF’s depth and scoring ability. In their most recent home game against South Carolina State, they achieved a 94-49 victory—the largest margin under Coach Messer. All 14 players have contributed this season, with the bench averaging 30 points per game, ranking third in the Big 12 Conference and forty-second nationally.

Sophomore guard Leah Harmon has made an immediate impact after transferring from Miami. She leads the team with 78 points through five games—ranking fourteenth in the Big 12 for scoring—and has posted career highs against Charlotte and South Carolina State.

The Knights also delivered a notable shooting performance against Florida A&M on November 21 by making over half of their field goal attempts (55.1%), which is among the best marks in program history under Coach Messer.

Within Florida competition, UCF has maintained dominance by winning seven straight games against state opponents. They have outscored these teams by a combined total of +162 across their last six matchups.

Ticket sales for single games and season packages are ongoing for fans wishing to attend future matches at Addition Financial Arena. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling the ticket office.

UCF Athletics is part of the Big 12 Conference and seeks to represent both its university and community at a national level through its athletic programs.
