The UCF women’s basketball team opened the Discover Puerto Rico Shootout with a 75-61 win over East Carolina in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The victory marks the Knights’ fourth consecutive win and continues their strong performance this season.
UCF dominated inside, scoring 52 points in the paint. Khyala Ngodu led the team with 20 points, becoming the first Knight to score more than 20 points in a game this season and achieving her third career game with at least 20 points. Leah Harmon added 17 points, matching her career high, while Mahogany Chandler-Roberts set a personal best with 12 points.
Ngodu made 10 of her 12 shots and grabbed seven rebounds. Harmon has now scored at least five field goals in six straight games and has accumulated 95 points through the first six games of the season, which is among the highest for a Knight in recent years. The Knights’ total of 52 points in the paint matched their output from a game against Texas Southern on December 7, 2024.
In the opening quarter, Chandler-Roberts scored three baskets early as both teams struggled with turnovers. After trailing by one at the media timeout, UCF finished the quarter on a 13-0 run to take a commanding lead. Bench players Jasmynne Gibson and Summer Yancy contributed during this stretch.
UCF maintained its advantage throughout the second period, largely due to contributions from Ngodu, Savannah Scott, and Chandler-Roberts. Harmon’s three-pointer late in the half was her thirteenth of the season. By halftime, UCF led East Carolina by six points.
After halftime, Ngodu continued to score effectively near the basket. Samari Bankhead added her first points of the contest as UCF extended its lead to double digits. Harmon hit another three-pointer late in the third quarter to put UCF ahead by seventeen entering the final period.
Chandler-Roberts surpassed her previous career high as UCF closed out its win.
The Knights will play Wake Forest next at 12:30 EST as they look to extend their winning streak at this tournament.
