City of Apopka recently issued the following announcement.
Sergeant Torres joined the Apopka Police Department in December of 2008, where he worked as a patrolman, until 2011, when he was selected to be a detective in the Criminal
Investigations Division. Sergeant Torres proved to be a tenacious and effective investigator, both within the department and as a Task Force Agent in the DEA, before returning to
the Patrol Services Division in 2016, as a Corporal. There, he dedicated his efforts to developing his supervisory philosophy, until June of 2019, when he was promoted from
amongst a group of his peers, to Sergeant.
Since his promotion, Sergeant Torres has continued to excel as a leader. He has worked, tirelessly, to ensure that he remains current with and fluent in agency policies, legal
updates and law enforcement trends that guide how we, as an agency and profession, will continue to succeed into the future. With his attention to detail, Sergeant Torres has
established himself as a firm, but fair leader that not only tasks himself with the well-being of his officers, but also that of the Police Department and the city, alike.
Sergeant Torres applies the skills and knowledge that he has gained, through his previous assignments, to ensure positive outcomes on nearly every situation that he has been
faced with. He navigates some of the most sensitive cases, both internally and externally, with a confidence and competence that far exceeds his tenure. This level of performance
has proven to be the norm, rather than the exception for Sergeant Torres, which is how he has also established himself as a peer leader and trusted co-worker.
Because Sergeant Torres has embraced the values and philosophies of the Apopka Police Department and continues to serve as a benchmark for others, he has been selected
Supervisor of the Year for 2021.
