This morning, the Board of County Commissioners proclaimed April 2022 as National Child Abuse Prevention Month in Seminole County.
In 2021, 5,377 child abuse reports were made in Seminole County, averaging 450 cases per month. Partnerships between child welfare professionals, education and health communities, faith-based organizations, businesses, law enforcement agencies, and families continue to work together to defend children, increase awareness and prevent child abuse.
Embrace Families, the region's lead agency for child welfare, welcomed county staff and officials to participate in the MANicure Movement. Men and women are challenged to boldly wear a single blue-polished fingernail, the color of child abuse prevention, throughout April.
Their painted nail recognizes the 1 in 5 children who will experience abuse before the age of 18. It also sparks conversations about a difficult topic. If one fingernail painted blue can start one conversation towards ending this tragic reality for even just one child, it can make a difference.
