Washington, D.C.— Rep. Cory Mills (FL-07), joined by House Foreign Affairs Chairman Michael McCaul and 18 colleagues, sent a letter to Secretary Blinken and Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield expressing concern over the impending expiration of several United Nations sanctions against Iran.
“The Iranian authoritarian regime has demonstrated countless acts of despicable violence against innocent men, women, and children,” said Rep. Mills. “The expiration of these crucial restrictions poses a significant threat to the security of the United States and our allies. In order to maintain global security, we must ensure that action is taken to prevent a further lapse in restrictions against Iran. As a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and as someone who was targeted by the Iranian authoritarian regime, I am proud to lead my colleagues in this critical effort to curtail malign activity.”
JINSA President and CEO, Michael Makovsky said, “The West must not allow UN sanctions against Iran's drone and ballistic missile program to expire especially while the regime is sending these deadly weapons to Russia. Iran's drones and missiles are already used to attack Americans and our allies in the Middle East – there is no justification for Iran to be allowed to supercharge its deadly activity. These sanctions will ensure Iran's is continued to be isolated internationally, demonstrating that there are consequences violating UNSCR 2231. JINSA applauds Representative Mills and House Foreign Affairs Chairman McCaul for their leadership in demanding answers from the Biden Administration on how they plan to prevent this dangerous possibility.”
