Rep. Mills, in a statement released on January 19, 2024, expressed his strong opposition to the continuing resolution (CR) and explained his reasons for voting against it. He criticized the use of CRs as "lazy legislation" and emphasized the need to address critical issues such as border security instead of postponing them.

Mills highlighted the previous discussions about going through committees of jurisdiction and having 12 single-subject appropriations bills. However, he pointed out that the current CR included a duck stamp bill, which he considered a tactic used by Democrats to tie funding to non-related policies. He stated, "It's a frequent tool of the Democrats where they tie funding to nongermane policy."

Drawing from his experience as a former business owner, Mills emphasized the importance of balancing account receivables and account payables. He stated, "We can't cut our way to prosperity; we must reform our spending by cutting programs that don't serve their intended purposes while reforming mandatories to protect and preserve those that do."

Mills expressed his frustration with Congress continually passing CRs instead of implementing an economic growth strategy. He argued that the American people deserve to see a plan that leads to prosperity, rather than witnessing Congress repeatedly kicking the can down the road. He said, "I refuse to treat this out-of-control spending in DC as normal."

Furthermore, Mills stressed the urgency of addressing the national debt, which he described as an "existential threat to our nation." He expressed his refusal to side with the "D.C. Swamp" and emphasized his vote against the continuing resolution as a stand against the ongoing cycle of irresponsible spending.

In conclusion, Rep. Mills' statement reflects his strong opposition to the continuing resolution, citing concerns over the lack of progress on critical issues and the need for responsible spending and economic growth.
