WASHINGTON—Rep. Cory Mills’ (FL-07) bill to rename the main post office in Casselberry, Florida, in honor of Colonel Joseph Kittinger, a former Command Pilot in the U.S. Air Force, has successfully passed the House Oversight Committee markup. The post office, located at 109 Live Oaks Boulevard, is set to be renamed after the distinguished veteran.
Expressing his gratitude, Rep. Mills stated, "I’m honored my legislation to commemorate a hero here in Florida’s Seventh has passed the House Oversight Committee markup." He further highlighted Colonel Kittinger's remarkable service and dedication to the nation, noting that the renaming will serve as a lasting tribute to his legacy.
Seminole County Commissioner Bob Dallari, who had the privilege of knowing Col. Joe Kittinger, shared his sentiments, saying, “I had the privilege of knowing Col. Joe Kittinger for many years, and it was a great honor for me to be a part of his selection to Seminole County’s Veteran of the Year in 2020.” Dallari emphasized that naming the post office after Col. Kittinger is a fitting tribute to all veterans who have selflessly served the country.
In appreciation of the recognition bestowed upon Col. Kittinger, his family extended their thanks, stating, “On behalf of the family of Col. Joe Kittinger, we would like to sincerely thank the U.S. Postal Service for naming the Casselberry Post Office in Joe’s honor." They expressed pride in Col. Kittinger's achievements during his 29 years in the U.S. Air Force, including his notable World Record for the Highest Parachute Jump in 1960.
