On December 11, 2024, Mills criticized Antony Blinken over the handling of Gaza rescues, questioning Blinken's presence in the situation by stating "I was there. Were you?".
The following day, December 12, 2024, during a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing, Mills directed strong words at Secretary Blinken. He conveyed that “We are better off as a nation, we are safer as a nation, and our American citizens will be safer with you not sitting in that seat”.
On December 13, 2024, Mills expressed his endorsement for Pete Hegseth to lead the Pentagon. He stated he is "proud to be 1 of 32 military Veterans that support @PeteHegseth to lead the Pentagon and prioritize our war fighters as Secretary of Defense".
