The Congressional App Challenge, hosted by the U.S. House's Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), aims to inspire and engage middle school and high school students in STEM fields. Since its establishment in 2015, the Challenge has become the largest student computer science competition in the United States.
Expressing his congratulations, Rep. Mills said, "I want to offer my congratulations to Clayton Seymour from Lake Brantley High School for winning the 2023 Congressional App Challenge in Florida's Seventh Congressional District. It's an honor to be a part of the district with the most submissions in App Challenge history! It's truly remarkable to see the creative, inventive minds of our students here in Central Florida."
Seymour, the first-place winner, shared his approach to the competition, saying, "When given instructions, I don't do exactly what we are told to do. I take the instructions and make it something I like to do." He attributed his success to having an innovative mindset and credited his Computer Science teacher, Mr. Seth Reichelson, for motivating his students by aligning the curriculum with their individual interests and strengths.
Joseph Alessi, the Program's National Director, highlighted the significant participation from Members of the House of Representatives, emphasizing their commitment to fostering technological innovation and inspiring the next generation of STEM leaders. Alessi also noted the exponential increase in student engagement, which underscores the Congressional App Challenge's influence as a platform for young minds interested in computer science.
